RE: A Nation within A Nation – The Lucas Clan in Australia, edited by Peter McKay, covering the descendants of Nathaniel Lucas and his wife Olivia Gascoigne.
You may be interested to know that the initial print run (approx 1150 copies) of A Nation Within A Nation sold out within a few weeks of its printing last November, due to much stronger interest in the book than anticipated. Considering that most family histories have print runs of only a few hundred copies, this would make it a best seller in family history terms.
Since the start of the year there has been continuing strong interest in obtaining copies of the book. Provided this continues (and so far it is not abating), I am planning a reprint of the book around the early part of 2003. To make the reprint viable I need to print a minimum of 500 copies, otherwise the cost of the book will go up significantly. In order for the reprint to occur, I will need orders for at least 350-400 copies (I have just over 200 so far), so if you know someone who is interested, make sure they contact me and confirm that interest. There is an order form, which contains details on the cost of the book including delivery charges, included with this letter. Alternatively feel free to contact me for further information.
SPREAD THE WORD TO OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY THAT YOU KNOW.
For those who may not be familiar with it, the book is an update to Nathaniel and Olivia – The Lucas Family, by Rhonda Krohnert and Betty Taber, and has some 37,705 extra names over the original work. The first printing of the book consisted of 1550 pages, plus hundreds of photos, and contained information on 47,194 people including, of course, Nathaniel and Olivia’s 31,425 direct descendants. Of those direct descendants, more than 23,000 are alive today. There is detailed information on Nathaniel and Oliva's history, and lesser amounts of history on their children.
Note: it is likely that the proposed reprint will be an update, rather than just a reprint of the first book (possibly with errors corrected). This is dependant on a number of factors yet to be resolved, not the least of which being the amount of new information received, and the effect of possible changes on the cost.
So far, I have a further 3200 names since the first printing, and have also received many new photos. I am still taking corrections and additional information at the moment, and am also still looking for more photos to help bring the book to life, both of current day generations, and also the earlier generations.

Firstly, once again thank to the hundreds of family members who have assisted by supplying information, whether a lot or a little, to help bring the records up to date. All the information has been gratefully accepted, as it would be impossible to track down all the descendants without the assistance of family members in the various branches.

I urge you to spread copies of this letter to other members of the family that you know. Now that the up-date reprint is in the final stage, it is important that all members of the clan be aware so that they can forward final updates, and place orders for the new book. Anyone who has an interest in this project who does not receive a copy of this letter directly from me, is urged to let me know should they be interested in a copy of the book.

I am particularly looking for photos of the earlier generations, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Nathaniel and Olivia. I am not hopeful of photos of many of their children, since most of them died before photography became relatively common.
Of course all photos are acceptable, and I will gratefully accept any that clan members care to send. Wherever possible, the photos will be placed close to the where the person(s) in the photo appear in the text. All photos will have a caption indicating who is in the picture, so when forwarding them, ensure that each person is clearly identified.

Once again I urge you to make copies of this letter known to all other members of the family that you have contact with.
